Bonsai is a Japanese-derived word that can be translated as “potted plant” or “planted in a container”. Buddhism had a massive influence on this horticultural practice that has been around since the ancient days of China, for over a thousand years. The goal of this practice is to create a miniature but accurate version of what nature is, in the form of a small “portable” tree. Any tree species can be used to achieve this goal, the only thing needed is proper technique.
Healthy redirecting the growth of the tree by wiring branches, pinching buds, and regulating the number of fertilizers used are some things used by bonsai enthusiasts. In general, bonsai heights reach up to four feet (about a meter) but not further.
